Wanted: Bean Mix Recipes [message #125989] Fr, 19 August 2005 21:27
buzzgun
I just bought about 18lbs of dry bean mix: Green split peas, pearled
barley, pinto, green lentils, kidney beans, cranberry beans, blackk
turtle beans, and white beans (navy?). I'd love to find enough recipes
to keep this a daily (or almost so) part of my diet for the next couple
of months. Thanks for helping me out!

erm....Vegetable stew

sprout them?

Nice guide for jar sprouting here:

http://biology.clc.uc.edu/fankhauser/Labs/Genetics/Sprouting _Seeds/Sprouting_Seeds.htm

Can then use in salads, stir fries etc etc :-)

Ah, well, I volunteered 4hrs at the local co-op foodstore. I wanted my
20% discount to really stretch.
-buzz (eating stewed, with garlic, salsa, and veg bouillion) Any more
ideas?

Ok , I post it again. You seem to see only what you want.

unfavourable, whereas a higher vegetable protein intake may be
beneficial for bone health. Our results strengthen the hypothesis that

What is this reply supposed to be responding to exactly? By the way, I
am talking with my parents (who help pay for about 70% of my food)
about switching to local, pasture-raised beef cattle. We have to buy
at least 1/4 of the animal, slaughtered locally. The local farm is
almost completely organic, save for some Nitrogen fertilizer used last
year. They told me this is still better than using chicken-litter on
the pasture. This year, the switched from alfalfa to clover to combat
the use of Nitrogen. Chicken-litter can contain traces of
anti-biotics, yuck. Some cattle, during pregnancy, will receive some
corn or rye, especially in the winter, to keep their nutritional intake
optimum. Weed plants in the pasture (thistle) are managed by hand.
They are also using Gulf Coast Native Sheep, which have some natural
resistance to parasites. They used organic natural soap to fight
insects/parasites as well. A few names mentioned were Senepole,
Levamasol, and Basic H (a Shackeley products). If anyone knows the
correct spelling, recognizes these products, and would comment, I would
appreciate it. The woman I spoke to said that her husband has a
primary job and the farm is not currently making a profit. I hope that
I can make the right decision and potentially support an important
local food source. Thanks for reading. Please keep suggesting bean
mix recipes. 18lbs is stultifying.
peace, war and peace,

I'd stretch out that discount on something I *really* like to eat.

I would vary it by spices and grains -- Mexican like you did yesterday
with some tortillas or rice, maybe something more Mediterranean
(Italian, Greek, or Moroccan seasoning) the next time with pasta or
couscous, Cajun after that over rice, with a variety of soups in
between. I think I would tire of that mix very quickly.

WTF does this have to do with Buzz's mixed beans or volunteer efforts at
his co-op, Bob?

So says the bumbling twit who can't even figure out how to post to the
proper threads.

Excuse my multi tasking. The fact is you left ut the sections on
vegetable protein being good for osteoporosis. It was in the wrong
string, an honest mistake. Your leaving out the critical information
was dishonest.

What buzz wrote about is the subject of this thread. Do you have
Alzheimer's or some form of early-onset dementia?

BECAUSE IT'S *OFF TOPIC*, YOU SILLY, STUPID OLD MAN. Do you even
comprehend this "thread" thing works (apparently not) and how your
prattle about "vegetable intake" doesn't contribute to buzz's dilemma of
creatively cooking fourteen pounds of mixed beans?
