Okay folks, we're under a mandatory evacuation at this time here in
Calcasieu Parish, LA. If you don't hear from us within the next 24-36
hours we will have gone north to Alexandria, LA. At this point in time
the few north bound highways we have are jampacked with vehicles. There
are about 1,000,000 people to evacuate from the coast and they are
gridlocked on the few roads going north. We've decided to wait another
24 hours at least and see what happens. We can always join the world's
longest parking lot if we have to.
Miz Anne and I have ridden out some pretty big storms before but this
one worries me. I'll be 66 tomorrow and I can't run or swim like I did
even at 56 yo. <VBG> I'm sure we'll be okay but, at the risk of sounding
anti-PC, we will ask for prayers and good wishes.
Mandatory RFP content: we're taking our home preserves with us.

George - more from my Mom.....Kathi
Hi George, from your friends in Canada!
I'm sorry to hear of you plight and flight from LA, but I know the prayers
of those of us who are watching the storm are headed your way. Happy
Birthday, tomorrow, if that will be possible.
I cannot imagine anything like this going on in my life. I turned 64 in
June and will retire in February 2006. One of the trips I was hoping to
take was to New Orleans and vicinity. Who knows -- I may be able to go
yet!
When we see the cars in the "parking lots" on the highways, it is
unbelievable! "Help" seems to be travelling in the opposite direction in
large white trucks -- but I can't imagine where they will "hide" to be out
of harms' way.
Thank you for sending updates, and to my daughter, Kathi, for
forwarding them on to me.
Best Wishes,
Gail

Could you leave a few specimens behind as a test for hurricane survival of
home made preserves? Looks like an opportunity to collect data for
survival during future cataclismic climactic events. There's unlikely to be
refridgeration for days after hurricanes pass through rural areas making
home preserving more than just an idle passtime.
Head for higher ground and wear a personal floatation device at all
times. :)

Jorge, I've been out of town but this morning on the weather channel at
the motel we were at, they're showing SULPHUR, LOOSEYANNA! I nearly
soiled myself. I got the beads out, Bro, and hope you and Miz Anne and
the hound are safe. God be with you.

My husband is working a parish or two north of George's.
They don't have power or water yet. I am sure George is fine, but
without power and thus, without Internet access. He's got my
husband's cell phone number and if he needed it, he could get him.
The cell phones still seem to work.
Folks down there are mostly ok, and I know George and his family can
handle the lack of electricity and water just fine - he's pretty good
about keeping things put up. <grin>
