Well folks, here it is!
I have given it a new layout = but I have included all the content from
the "old" site and one or two new things.
Any comments, suggestions etc. would be appreciated.

Nice work, CC. It's attractive, clean, and fast loading. I
especially appreciate the fact that your design emphasizes
readability and usability and it's not loaded down with
extraneous stuff (no Flash Trash, etc). I like your style.
Clean and slick.
Looks perfect on IE 6. Netscape 7.1 has some minor
sizing problems with the nav buttons. They extend out
to the right and cover the body text a little bit.
Great job. Instead of calling it "unofficial" I say
we vote to make it official :)

We did development in FF and then checked it in IE and Opera - to be
honest, I thought that FF would be close enough to Netscape for a first
look. Full browser testing is on the cards (please bear in mind we don't
have any Macs here). But thanks for letting me know, will have a look at it.

I especially love the fact that the navigation bar is available on all
pages. No going back to go elsewhere! I wish more websites had that
feature.....

I have a mac, and other than the map link, it all loads fast and works
well for me using both mac IE and safari. :-) Have not checked it in
Mozilla yet which I believe is more or less of a Netscape clone?

I have put in two external links to the map on that page... a "normal"
one plus the image of the map also has the same link.
Two questions:
1) Do you have the same problem with both?
2) What happens if you use this link and just click on it?:

Would be interested to hear the outcome.

Looks good to me. :-) I especially like the plain HTML.
Is your taking over the Web site "official and final"? No objections
from the previous maintainers (John Gaughan and John Robinson)? Should
I update section 11 of the rfc FAQ accordingly?
As to suggestions, people are forever asking about the "chat link".
IIRC, such a question started the discussion that gave you the idea of
taking over the site some months back. Maybe put some or all of the
following info on the site somewhere, perhaps in its own section?
Direct IRC connection:
Server: irc.penguinpowered.ca
Port: 6667
Channel: #rec.food.cooking
Software (an IRC client) needed to connect (as recommended so far!):
Windows:
mIRC <http://www.mirc.com>
Macintosh:
Snak <http://www.snak.com>
Ircle <http://www.ircle.com>
*nix
ircII <http://www.eterna.com.au/ircii>
Java link, if using a Java-enabled Web browser:

I have an eMac at work and a PowerBook at home and I use FF on both and it all
seems to look fine for me on both (granted, they're both running the same OS
but still).
Lovely work. Thank you. I added my birthday and added myself to the map and I
will get some recipes together when I get a chance.

John R. notified the group a couple of weeks ago that the domain was up
for renewal this month and asked for any interested parties to contact
him. I volunteered to host and maintain the site. John R. said it was
fine with him - as long as there were no objections from the rest of the
group. Nobody else objected. So John R. agreed to transfer the domain
name to me (or should I say "us"). It is living on DH's server now and
he did a lot of work on the site too.

That's good news. Problem is, there are many browsers and several
different versions of OS around so it will take a bit of help from the
group to let us know if the site works for everyone. But I am sure they
won't keep me in suspense ;)

I used to do some web development and while I'm a huge advocate of cross
platform compatibility there just comes a point where the end user has to just
accept that not everything is going to lay out correctly on their system. But,
I always advocate using the simplest code you can get away with and at least
checking it on all the major platforms.

thanks. I'm a little disappointed that the horsemen didn't pick me up on my

pseudo-cerberus!! (actually, I just ate indian food and cuddled up with the
boy. Official festivities were re-scheduled to this weekend.)

I'm on a Mac using Safari, but I haven't yet tried the map. I'll let

I just noticed that Alan Boles has the same birthday as my husband

passed... eventually ;) I will never misplace a comma or semicolon ever,
