Do you have a favorite one? I have one that uses ice and rock salt, but am
looking to buy one that you put the "bowl" in the freezer, then use. I'm
tired of either smashing ice or buying it to use my maker. Does anyone have
one that they would recommend?>
Thanks,

I've had a Donvier for 12 years and I love it and use it a lot. It has a
freezable canister, makes a quart of ice cream and is a hand crank. This is my
recommendation

The Kitchenaid one works well. No cranking and the bowl lives full time
in my freezer so it's always ready to make something quick which is a
big improvement over the old ice, rock salt and hand cranking method.

That's what I use, too. I had an electric one that used rock salt, and that
was a pain to deal with. Never had salt on hand when I wanted to use it,
then someone told me the salt water wasn't good for the plumbing (don't know
if that was true or not).
Then someone gave me a hand-crank unit with the freezer bowl. Okay, that's
sort of an improvement, but twenty minutes of cranking isn't exactly fun.
Might be okay if a bunch of people are taking turns, but otherwise it's just
a chore. I was going to pull it out and use it again, then realized I'd lost
a part, probably when we moved. So I got the bowl for the Kitchenaid.
It does a good job, and the Kitchenaid lives on the counter, so it's not
like there's an extra appliance lurking around. And the freezer bowl goes
back into the freezer after each use.

I've had my Donvier for about 2 years and I like it. It may not be as sturdy
as the person's who's had it for 12 years because sometimes that cranker is
hard to turn when the ice cream really gets frozen. It's a great, easy
solution though.

I had that problem but I just remembered to crank more often and sometimes
crank backwards.
I'm surprised mine lasted 12 years, I'm really really hard on the things I
own.

I get good results from my Cuisineart. I have been using it regularly for the
last three years, My mother just got one a few months ago and is really
enjoying making her own ice cream.

I splurged for a Simac. It wasn't extravagant first time
around, but my replacement was 600$. Still, worth it
because I make at least a quart per week. I made this
frozen yogurt using the machine.

The Kitchenaid one goes on the Kitcheaid mixer? That would be great since I
already have the mixer, and it lives on my counter, too!
Debbie

The kitchenaid thing is just a freezer bowl, a paddle attachment, and an
adapter device so the paddle rotates correctly. And some round gizmo that's
an adapter for the bowl, I believe, to make it fit different models of
mixers. I didn't need it, so I stashed it, just in case my next mixer is a
different model.
It seemed kind of pricey, for what you get, but I'm actually getting quite a
bit of use out of it, compared to the other two models that were a pain to
deal with.

I found a killer deal on the ice cream attachment. It's the third
item from the bottom:

After looking at several reviews and prices, I believe I will be buying the
Cuisinart ICE-20.
I really appreciate everyone's input.

You should enjoy it. That is the one that I picked up for my mother, and every
batch she has made has turned out nicely.
