Hi,
I feel really stupid asking this, but how exactly do you use the
FoodSaver with Mason jars:
1. Lid only?
2. Lid and ring together?
I'm sure the video covers this, but I don't have a VCR. Didn't see
anything on their web site either.
TIA,
ML

Lid only; there's a gadget you have to buy for about $10 that hold the
lid and seals around the jar while you vacuum it. You need one gadget
for each size jar.
Bob
Oops, I meant one gadget for each size lid.

The gadget works very well great for vacuuming things in jars to keep
mice and other critters out. (mice can gnaw through the plastic bags)

Thank you! I finally found jars in a nearby town, so now I know what to
buy to top them.

You use lid only. Requires a jar sealing attachment, there's one for
each lid size. Some FoodSavers come with one size attachment, other
models don't come with any.
Sometimes there is a problem sealing regular size lids but, one trick
that I've found works very well is to apply two lids to the jar before
using the sealing attachment. This is almost 100% effective and, after
sealing just lift off the second lid.
Ross.

Thanks for the tip. I bought some jars earlier today and am going to
try sealing up my rib rub tonight. Seems like a safe think to practice
on. I'll try the two lids tip in hopes that sealing goes smoothly.
Reading this newsgroup reminds me of all the summers I spent as a kid,
canning with my Mom. Good times.
