Though this is the better picture of it:

I'm eager to see one IRL. Can't wait to find out the cost. When they
market them by fours, I know it's not cheap.

Pshaw! I want to see the platinum lid, that metal is worth about $800 an
ounce. <VBG>

If there ever was a sure thing aimed at the niche crafts market, this is it.
All I've seen of them are the pictures linked to in Barbara's post, but my
first impression when I saw the pics was that they're homely. The candle
trade will thrive on the ugly squat little things.

I've got just a few old Ball jars that I like the shape of -- they are
regular-mouth half-pints with square sides. (might be slightly larger
than 8 ounce) They kind of look like little cubes with the corners
rounded off. I'm not sure where they came from; I have comb honey in
them now from the last of my Dad's bee hives before the varroa mites
got 'em.

I have a few of those in wide mouth Bob. Like you I have no idea where
they came from. Some have Kerr in the side of the jar and others have
Ball on them. Suspect they came from a church garage sale I attended
about ten years ago. I bought well over 100 jars from half pint to quart
at that sale for five cents each.

Mason jars are the only type I have ever seen in Canada since that is what
is made here, and that is the local name. Dominion Mason, Bernadin Mason,
Domglas Mason and Canadian Mason are the labels in my cupboard. Guess it
depends on the manufacturer and/or the vintage

odd jars...I've got Atlas jars and a few wide mouth Ball...how about those
jars with the heavy glass 'shoulders' in them? I've got 2 of those - says
'Consumers' on them (made in Canada). And I have a large mouth Dominion
Mason, holds about 400 ml. Also found an old Canadian Jewel jar that no lid
will fit....and I have no idea where I got them....weird, eh?

Don't you have anything to do besides rub it in, George? I mean,
really! Why don't you go outside and spray for mosquitoes or something?

I just went out to check on the DW, she's been outside most of the day,
in between washing clothing and cleaning house. She sure wishes I would
get well quicker. She's digging out the back planting bed to get rid of
the berry vines and the Jerusalem artichokes. I think we may get some
thornless blackberries to go back there but we have to mound it up into
a raised bed because the soil stays so damp. Mosquitoes? What makes you
think we have any steenking mosquitoes? They do need spraying though, I
was swarmed by them when I went out back, it's dusky dark here and they
are a flying. Rub it in, I wasn't rubbing it in, just making a
statement. Remember, I live in a state that is primarily agricultural
and nearly everyone cans or preserves something every year. Big old
church I mentioned is Pentecostal. They have a garage sale for their
missions each year and I hit it on the prowl for jars, boxes of lids,
etc. Got the lady that runs the sale calling me now if they have any and
I reserve them at ten cents the jar and a quarter a box of lids and less
if it's a partial box. That way they're assured they will sell them. I
do share with friends though, if they will pick them up. Hint, hint.

I've seen commercial 'sgetti sauce in those. Got a coupla cases of them jars
from a friend and used them for pickles. BWB'd okay, but I dunno if I'd trust
them in a pressure canner.

right?

I think pressure canning is *less* stressful on the jars than BWB.

I believe that was one of the reasons we don't reuse mayo jars
(besides the lids don't fit anymore) - they were thin commercial
type glass and only good enuf for one use. I dunno about the
pressure canner thing, I'd think the higher heat and longer
processing would be more stressful.

Someone on this newsgroup reported successfully reusing them in a
pressure canner. Can't remember who it was though but the glass is
certainly thick enough. I wouldn't be afraid to use them but I've never,
ever bought spaghetti sauce, always make my own as it's so simple.
